The source of this document is the Early English Books Online (EEBO-TCP) website. Those books were transcribed in a character for character manner and can be very cumbersome to read since there was no standard spelling during that time. Many spelling variations such as "unlesse", "vnlesse", and "vnles" regularly appear.
This project was conceived to clean up those books as much as possible and make them more accessible to the interested reader, leading to the creation of a massive list of variant spellings and their corrections. This was used to clean up the text, but is of course only as complete as the list itself. Because of the nature of the original transcription, some words have missing characters or places where the original language (e.g., Greek) was not transcribed. This effort does not change that. Be aware that the original transcription can also be faulty and in some cases entire sentences may be missing.
Although this is no substitute for a properly compared, proofed, and scholarly edition, I believe that the result is a document which is far more accessible, particularly for searching for terms using standard spelling. The document has been cleaned and presented in what I hope is a pleasing and useful format for the vast majority of Christian brothers and sisters who just want access to read these spiritually nourishing works.
However, a word of warning: The Puritans were a very diverse group of people and their age was characterized with godliness, but also much upheaval, disputation and strife. They disagreed on many doctrines and some of these works contain less orthodox or Scriptural views than others. The reader is strongly advised to read with discernment, particularly if it is unknown whether author is trustworthy.
This project took a huge amount of time and skill to bring to fruition. I would particularly like to thank David Jonescue for the initial list of Puritans he found on EEBO and the concept behind this project as well as the continuous, unceasing efforts toward seeing this complete. Without his labor, this would not be available. Alex Sarrouf was invaluable in providing the initial list of over 7,000 spelling variations he had identified and corrected, as well as continuing to review more than 16,000 additions to that list for any typos.

DIEV ET MON DROIT
ACcording to His Majesty's especial Command to Me signified for AVOIDING the great Dangers happening by FIRE. That all persons having Lodgings within His Majesty's Palace at Whitehal, should have so many Leather Boquetts as there are Chimneys within their respective Lodgings; and that the same be kept there in readiness upon all occasions.
These are therefore to require, that all and every the respective Persons in the List here under written, do within Ten days after the Date hereof, provide themselves with so many Boquetts as in the said List are expressed, upon their respective Names, according to the number of Chimneys within their respective Lodgings, And that the Rules and Orders here under written, be duly observed upon pain of incurring His Majesty's Displeasure.
And to the end the Persons in the said List mentioned, may with more Conveniency be provided at hand, and at the best Rates, Care is taken, and James Gourlaw Yeoman of the Buttery, is Ordered to provide the Boquetts, and cause the same to be marked according to the said List, with the Names and Figures for all the respective Persons and Offices, to whom the said Persons may accordingly send for the same, paying for them at the Price they cost.

ORDERS and Rules to be observed within His Majesty's Palace at Whitehal, in case of Fire happening there, and for prevention of Danger thereby.
- I. THat in case of any Fire happenning within His Majesty's said House, every Person do forthwith send by his Servants, or other Persons to the Ayd therein, his Boquetts wherewith he stands charged, full of Water.
- II. That no person make use of any his said Boquetts for any Ordinary or private use.
- III. That after any Fire whereat the Boquetts shall be made use of, such as shall be left about the Place be gathered in by the Yeoman and Officers of the Pitcher-house, and carried to the Buttery, and sorted together, ready to be delivered to the Owners, within Three days at the farthest, who is to send for the same within that time to the said Office.
- IV. That if any Boquetts shall be impaired, made unserviceable or destroyed in the Fire, the same shall be repaired and made good, or others supplied by the respective Owners.
- V. That no Person presume to change or detain the Boquetts belonging to another upon penalty of 20 s
- VI. That on Thursday in Easter -week yearly every Person Respectively upon penalty of five shillings for his Default, do cause to be sent into Scotland -yard all the Boquetts he is charged withal, full of Water, to be called by the List, and viewed by the Officers appointed to search and try whether the same be sound and in sufficient repair, who are thereupon to give notice to the Gentleman-Usher daily Waiter, of any defaults that the same be reformed.
- VII. That List of every Person, and the number of Boquetts he is charged to keep, with the figure or mark of distinction, be kept by the said Gentleman-Usher.
- VIII. And to the end that no Person may pretend Ignorance of his Duty, touching the matters before directed, every Person shall cause to be pasted up, or hung up in a Table, the said Orders and Directions in some convenient place in his Lodgings.
- IX. That care be had by the Possessors of any Lodgings in keeping their respective Chimneys duly swept.
- X. That in case any Chimneys shall happen to be on fire, within any Lodgings, so as to be discovered above the top, the owner of the Lodgings shall forfeit 10 s. to be paid upon demand to the Clerk of the Works, to be distributed amongst such Laborers as shall be employed for the quenching the same.
- XI. That in case any Chimney shall happen to be on fire, It is Ordered that they do not fire any Guns up the Chimneys, but rather clap a wet sheet very close against the Mantle and Jambes, that no Air draw in, which will readily extinguish.
